Mixed mode ATSF Grain Train.

Posted by Matt Jackson
Mixed mode test. Scale-wheeled MTH C40-8W diesel locomotives with a mix of scale-wheeled and hi-rail Atlas PS4427 Santa Fe grain hoppers, plus a pair of scale-wheeled Atlas 89-foot Trailer flats. Some of the hi-rail cars were changed over to transition cars with a scale coupler on one end and a hi-rail coupler on the other. This was more cost-effective (short term) than switching the cars over to 2-rail (which I'm ultimately going to do). The primary purpose of the test was to see the limits of the locomotives with a heavy train. All three units are powered, but two were sufficient to handle the train; one can pull on level ground but slipped on a 1.5% grade.
