The most in teresting piece of heavy duty earthmoving equipment on Jim Shiff's N scale "open pit" mining railroad is this model of the P&H "Walking Dragline. " The bucke t, like tha t on the real equipmen t, is from a giant dump truck - Jim used the Rapido N scale dump truck bucket on this one. The cab, caterpillar tracks, and boom are from various pieces of AHM's HO scale "Minimovers" with detail castings from the S&S Ltd. line of HO scale detail parts. The are cars are Trix-brand repainted and lettered for Phelps-Dodge Corp. and Kennecott Copper with Walthers-brand decals.

T his "20 Ton P&H Electric Power" shovel began life as an HO scale A HM-bran d "Universal Clamshell Crawler" with a bucket from the AHM "Universal Backhoe Crawler. " The real equipmen t is so huge that HO scale models scale about righ t for N scale miniatures.
