C OVE R : P eoria, III., boasts four different railroads hauling unit coal trains into, or through, town. A good spot to watch the action is Peoria & Pekin Union's bridge over the Illinois River. In a September 1 982 photo, a westbou nd empty BN coal train led by U30C crosses the old bascule span which has since been replaced by a modern lift bridge.

A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR
regular, schedule and making other improvements has been very satisfying. Now it is time for a shift. I am leaving the editorship to take on other IP corpo rate duties. I'll still be in touch with the magazine as Contributing Editor, but I want to introduce some new talent. Assuming the post of Editor is Don Gulbrandsen. Don has already been active in the production of the magazine in our Waukesha office and his talents are very apparent. The newest face in our Glendale office is Elrond Lawrence, who will serve as Assistant Editor. Elrond is a fine railroad photographer and a writer as well (a recent issue contains his Redlands Loop feature). Don and Elrond, along with Associate Editor Mike Schafer and Art Director Mark Danneman, whose talents are great as well, will form a great team for future issues of PACIFIC RAI LNEW S .
