The Genesis, by Athearn, Union PacHic FEF-Class 4-8-4 has details nearly as fine as most brass locomotives and it is equipped with both DCC and Sound.

n September 1936 the Union Pacific chose Aleo to build the first 20 4-84's to replace the old 4-8-2's. The UP was looking for ways to save money while running longer faster trains and the 4-8-2's couldn't handle it. The third and last generation of these was numbered 835-844. Delivered in 1 944 they were very similar to the second generation FEF-2 with minor changes due to mate rial shortages caused by World War II. All together the 45 FEF's saved the UP 3 cents per mile or about $300,000 per year in operating costs. These locomo tives took on their distinctive appear ance in late 1 945 with the addition of the smoke deflectors and in 1 946 the classic gray paint scheme was added.
