Steve Neubaum's Album: Varney Sheet Metal Milwaukee Road Flatca

The kit, as factory designed, rides much too high on the trucks. The prototype photo from rr-fallenflags shows how low the prototype rides. So I removed the wooden underflooring, built up a center sill out of styrene, and added Kadee couplers and Kadee Bettendorf trucks. The wood load was made from blocks of wood with individual boards penciled on, and round hardwood toothpicks shaved to fit in the stake pockets.

Varney Flat - Underside
Made the new centersill. a .060 thick strip runs the entire car length, the coupler box sit directly on it. A .156 thick strip runs between couopler boxes and the trucks attach to it.
